Solar Heated Birdbath - A Great Idea In Cooler Climates
Solar power is the electricity generated through sunlight. In this era of global warming when our natural resources, fossils are at the end this source is sustainable and economical choice. Putting a Solar Heated bird bath in your backyard will no doubt attract many birds.
What exactly is a Birdbath?
Birds, compared to other living things, need more water to drink to avoid dehydration. Did you know about 70% of a bird's body weight is actually water? A birdbath is a great way to attract birds, to both quench their thirst and to provide a bathing & splashing pool when they will come to your garden. To make a perfect birdbath you need to be aware of features like size, height, and texture. A shiny slippery bath will look attractive to a human but not necessaily for birds, as it may become difficult for a bird to grip to such surface. Climate is a big factor is deciding which material to be used. Material should be weather resistant and able to hold water. Common materials used are stone, cement, copper, concrete, mosaics, plastic, glass, marble, brass, heartwood and other metals.
Solar bird bath
Bird baths powered with solar or photovoltaic cells are getting popular these days. Muliple solar cells are used in combination as panels and store energy from sun. The best part of it is this energy costs absolutely no money. Sometimes batteries are provided as a backup power source to panels, which helps solar bird baths to work even on cloudy days and into the evening hours.
Often for aesthetic purposes solar panels are hidden under water. Fiberglass with weathered stone finish and durable resins are use to construct these panels which also gives a realistic and attractive appearance. For best performance solar bird baths must be kept away from items that could damage their surfacing. Its pumps must be protected from cold to avoid freezing and though it's better to keep these panels in temperate dry place, having the heating power from the solar system an mean they're pften practicle in less than ideal climates. Solar bird baths are self contained so no installation is required, they're easy to move and can be positioned wherever desired. They have no operating costs. Zero!
You can add waterfalls, misters, drippers to lure even more birds. Birds are attracted to the sound of trickling water, so adding a fountain where water circulates would be a good choice. Birds have an absolute ball spashing around on a hot day, and so will you when watching them enjoy what you've provided for them. Try placing your Solar heated bird bath in that area that gets plenty of sunshine and also where cats will have harder time to get to, or even use a cage to protect the bath. It'll be worth the extra effort.
